Boards > Gaming > Xbox Lobby > does ethernet xbox one download faster?. Forwarding my Xbox One, it made my 360 restricted. Shouldn't make a difference unless your xbox is far away from. Okay there is a simple and fast way to speed up the download. It's getting really fu***** annoying, having to wake up early just to start the.
Improve the internet speeds on your Xbox One.. I tripled mine!
I have a PS4 and have been getting terrible internet speeds. I finally broke and did some research, which helped me go from 4 mbps download speeds to at least 15 mbps with about 5 minutes of time. That's not lightning fast but I'm no longer getting kicked from multiplayer matches. Maybe this can help X1 owners as well! Please note that a wired connection is always the better option and that this is for those of us for whom wired is not possible.

Run a speed test. Follow the instructions, which basically means make sure no other devices are connected to your internet before you test. I recommend using a laptop and the link I provided but you can run a speed test on your X1 too (Network Settings > Test Internet Connection).
On your smartphone, download a wifi analyzer app. I bought one titled Wifi Analyzer on my HTC One.
There should be a channel graph or analyzer of some sort. Mine looks like this. Originally, my network (Netgear JC) overlapped with the other one and a few more that aren't on that picture. See which channels have the least amount of activity. The sweetspots are probably 1 or 11.
Access your router manager. Because I have a Netgear router, I type in 'http://192.168.1.1' to my address bar. If you have linksys, asus, or another brand just use google to figure out what address you need. You may have to go through and set up the admin account if you haven't already done so. For netgear my default username was 'admin' and my default password was 'password'. If you have a different brand, a simple google search for '[brand] router default password' will suffice. Please change the password at least if you haven't done so already.
Install any available firmware updates.
Change the channel. My router manager looks like this.
You can also play around with the modes. I included the drop down menu in the above picture to show you the choices available to me but they'll probably be different for you. If you have a dual band router, you'll have 'a' and/or 'n' as well as 'b' and 'g'. Pick a mode, apply it, and run a speed test. Choose whichever mode gives you the fastest speeds!
It may look like a lot but it's pretty quick and easy - especially so after you've done the steps at least once. You can always go back and change the two of these settings if you think you need to make more adjustments. I just decided to be detailed in case anyone was as new to this as I was. Btw, I do not suggest changing any settings other than your SSID, password, channel, and mode unless you know what you're doing.
